In this tutorial i will show how to set static ip address in ubuntu 11.10 step by step with image preview.

STEP 1 :
First click settings icon in the top right corner as shown in the image below.
STEP 2 :
Click "system settings" as shown in the image below. It will open another window.
STEP 3 :
Click "network" icon as shown in below image.It will open another window.
STEP 4 :
I f you are using ethernet cable for network the select "Wired" on the left side and click "configure" button.It will open another window.
STEP 5 :
Click IPv4settings tab.
STEP 6 :
By default "Automatic DHCP" will be there.Select the drop down box as shown the below image.
STEP 7 :
Select Manual from the drop down box.
STEP 8 :
Click ADD button in right side to add IP address.
STEP 9 :
Type IP address and netmask as shown in the image below. Then click save.
Then the ip address specified will active on that machine.
